Practice IELTS Speaking Part 1 – Real Test Questions
How to Practice Part 1 Properly
When you answer IELTS Speaking Part 1 questions:
Answer the question directly. Do not repeat the question at the start.
Extend your answer with short, natural extra information using Who, What, Where, When, Why, and How.
Mix tenses if possible (for example, past and present, or present and future).
Use natural linking words like “Well,” “Actually,” “To be honest,” or “It depends.”
Speak naturally, as you would in conversation — not like you are writing an essay.
Do not self-correct. Full stop.
Example 1:
Question:
Do you often read books?
Good answer:
I read almost every day. I usually read before bed because it helps me relax, and last month I finished three novels. Next, I’m planning to start a history book.
(Direct answer, natural extension, past + present + future tense mix.)
Example 2:
Question:
Do you enjoy cooking?
Good answer:
To be honest, I like cooking when I have time. On weekends, I usually make big meals for my family, but during the week I’m too busy and eat simple food.
(Direct answer, linking word used naturally, tense variety, fluent.)
Key Points:
Speak naturally and confidently.
Give 2–4 full sentences per answer.
Avoid memorised templates.
Do not repeat the question.
Do not self-correct.
