What You’ll Learn on This Page

❓ What Is This Page About?

This page introduces the only two paragraph structures you need for IELTS Task 2 essays. QPEE and PEE work for every essay type — and once you learn them, you’ll never struggle to organise your paragraphs again.

📘 What You’ll Learn on This Page

You’ll learn when to use QPEE and when to use PEE, see clear examples for both, and understand how to build strong, focused body paragraphs in every IELTS essay.

🔧 What Is QPEE?

QPEE = Question → Point → Explain → Example

Use this for Body Paragraph 1, especially when:

  • You’re opening your argument

  • You need to explain the idea before giving an example

  • You’re presenting a side you agree with (in opinion/discussion essays)

✅ QPEE Example

So, why do I feel this way?
One reason is that remote work improves work–life balance.
When people work from home, they save time on commuting and can spend more time with family.
For example, someone working remotely might use their lunch break to eat with their kids or do school pickups.

🔨 What Is PEE?

PEE = Point → Explain → Example

Use this for Body Paragraph 2, especially when:

  • Your argument is already clear

  • You don’t need to introduce the idea slowly

  • You want a short, punchy paragraph structure

✅ PEE Example

Another issue is rising housing prices in tourist areas.
Many landlords convert homes into short-term holiday rentals.
For example, in some cities, this has reduced the number of affordable homes, forcing families to move away and breaking up communities.

🧩 Final Tips

  • One paragraph = one point

  • QPEE is best when you’re introducing a new idea

  • PEE is better when reinforcing something you’ve already explained

  • Use one clear example per paragraph — no more, no less

  • Keep examples formal, realistic, and general (no personal stories)

Once you’ve mastered these two structures, your writing becomes faster, clearer, and much easier to plan under exam pressure.
